How to Install a Water Filter Under the Kitchen Sink
I love my under sink water filter. It’s a great way of making sure that all the water I drink will be safe. It gets rid of any harsh chemicals, leaving me with pure water. It’s also very easy to maintain. It’s something I think everyone should have. But most people are holding back from putting one in because they think it will be too difficult to install. Let’s take a closer look at the installation process, so you can see how simple it is for yourself.
How Does An Under Sink Water Filter Work?
Before we talk about the process of installing the filter, I wanted to talk briefly about how they work. This can help you understand what the finished product is supposed to meant to look like. It will also show you how it’s different from other filtration systems.
First, the water is taken from the cold water pipe. It will then flow through the pipe and into the filtration system. It will then be cleaned, with all the potentially harmful chemicals removed. After this, it will flow into a second pipe. This takes it back up the sink, where it will be safe to drink. This system relies on water pressure to force the water through the filtration system. Now that we know how it works, let’s take a closer look at how you can install this system.
Step One: Disconnect the Water
The first thing that you’ll want to do is disconnect the water. This will ensure that you don’t have a flood in your kitchen. You might need to go into the basement turn off the water supply.
Step Two: Put in the Filter Unit
Next, you’ll need to screw in the brackets. They should be included with the filter kit. You must consider the placement carefully. You’ll want to leave enough space that you’ll be able to access the unit and change the canisters. After you’ve found the right spot, mark it using a pencil. Then, remove the filter unit.
Before you install it, get the plumbing connections installed. It will be easier to do it now than when it’s installed in the cupboard. You’ll need to put in two connections. One will be labeled in, the other will be out. The instructions that come with the filter unit will tell you where these are. Once these are in, you can put the filter unit in place. Attach the bracket. Put in the screws and tighten them up.
Step Three: Make the Connections
The next part of the process is to connect the filter with the rest of the sink. First, you’ll need to find the cold water valve. Typically, this will be on the left-hand side. Often, you’ll see a male adapter connected to a nut. You’ll need to break that connection, using a wrench. Have a bucket in place, as there might still be some water left in the line.
Next, you’ll need to put in a T-connection. This should come with the filter. If not, you’ll be able to buy it from the hardware store. You might want to put Teflon tape over the threads, to form a watertight connection. When you’re connecting this, you want it to fit snugly. But you don’t want it to become overtight. Once the T-connection is made, insert a piece of plastic pipe. This will go into the water filter valve. This will provide an easy way to turn the water on and off when changing the filter canister. At the other end of the valve, you’ll need to put in the plastic cord.
Finally, you’ll need to attach these plastic cords to the water filter. You’ll often have to put an insert and a nut into the pipe. This will ensure you can create a tight connection. Connect the pipe to the tap. Tighten the nut. Attach the pipe from the tap into the part of the filter marked “out”. Then, you need to attach the pipe from the cold water tap into the filter, it should be marked “in”. You might need to trim the pipe to get it to fit. All the connections are now made. Check that they are snug, but not overtightened. This video will give you a better idea of where everything should go.
Step Four: Test the Filter
Finally, it’s time to turn on the water supply. This will let you know that everything is working properly. When you first turn it on, leave it to run for a few minutes. Sometimes it can take a while for the filter to work. Often, it can contain charcoal and other substances. Wait until the water is running clear before you start to drink. Check under the sink, to make sure that there aren’t any leaks.
Maintaining Your Under Sink Water Filter
If you want to take care of your filter, there are a few things that you’ll need to do. First, you’ll need to change the filter. How often you’ll need to do this will depend on how often you use it and the type of filter you buy. The exact method you use will depend on the type of filter you have purchased. This video will show you how to do this.
It’s also a good idea to keep the water filter instruction manual. This can provide a lot of tips for caring for your device. It will also help you get the filter established if you ever decide that you want to move home. You should be able to take the filter with you. Any connections or piping can be purchased from the hardware store.
Under the sink water filtration system is a great option for many people. It’s a relatively low maintenance way of filtering your water. I’m thrilled with my system, I know that it’s keeping my family safe, filtering out all the harmful chemicals. Hopefully, these steps will make it easy for you to install a water filter in your home.
